Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Our teammates are APTIM’s greatest asset.
Our work begins here with them.
Being a great place to work and creating an inclusive, equitable environment that celebrates the diversity of our people is the foundation to how we make a difference and drive sustainable growth.
Our Commitment
APTIM is committed to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment. We value and celebrate a diversity of people, ideas, and backgrounds, and we support and empower the individuality of our teammates and the communities in which we serve. We govern our diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) commitment through our DEI Leadership Council.
Inclusion Networks
APTIM Inclusion Networks (AIN) are company-recognized, employee-led groups for those with common backgrounds, interests, or goals. The mission of our current AINs are as follows.
- Black Employee Talent (BET): To be a resource that facilitates opportunities for the professional development of all Black employees while actively contributing to the greater Black communities that our business serves
- Growth, Relationships & Opportunities for Women (GROW): To create a place where we can thrive, connect, and excel and to provide opportunities for professional growth through networking, mentorship, and skill development
- Future Leaders Initiative (FLI): To serve as a resource to positively create a space within APTIM for early career talent to engage with one another and partake in initiatives
- PRIDE: To celebrate and empower LGBTQ+ employees as well as foster an inclusive workplace at APTIM where all people are equal, belong, and can thrive authentically
- Hispanic/LatinX Organization for Leadership and Advancement (HOLA): To serve as a resource to APTIM to positively influence the environment, ensure professional development of all Hispanic/LatinX members, and assist APTIM in achieving its diversity and inclusion plan
Philanthropy
As a future-focused organization, APTIM partners with several universities and nonprofit organizations to empower our nation’s youth to pursue careers in sustainability, resilience, and the environment. We fund educational programs and hands-on projects to proactively create a pipeline of diverse talent and increase the impact of emerging leaders.
- Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University’s Sustainability Institute: Helps students develop their careers in environmental sustainability and gain leadership experience to help them make a difference on- and off-campus
- Girlstart: Provides year-round, out‑of-school science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programming to girls in grades 4–8 across the country, as one of the longest running women in STEM empowerment organizations
- Louisiana State University’s College of the Coast & Environment: Diversifies the coastal and environmental workforce by helping middle and high school students learn hands on about the environment and its connection to communities
Partnerships
Our strategy includes dedicated DEI resources, on-demand and leadership-specific trainings, employee resource groups, and feedback forms available on our company intranet. We have taken proactive steps to diversify our workforce by ramping up recruiting efforts at career fairs, historically Black colleges and universities, and professional organizations such as those below.
- CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion: Commits, through a pledge made by a 2,400+ CEOs, to cultivate an environment that supports open dialogue on DEI; implement and expand unconscious bias education and training; share DEI programs and initiatives; and engage boards when developing and evaluating DEI strategies
- ERG Leadership Alliance: Trains, certifies, and connects people and processes to enable employee resource groups (ERG) operational efficiency, optimize every employee's experience, and ultimately contribute tangibly to the culture and financial objectives
- National Society of Black Engineers: Increases the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community
